Fallen Stars symbolize the death of a person in Romanian customs.
Do you know: People in Transylvania believe that each person has his own tree and star.
Fir trees symbolize life for the Romanians. Hence, when someone passes away, a fir tree is placed at the head of the deceased’s grave. A young group of men go into the forest and bring back a fir tree. The women join the men at the village entrance and together they sing about the relation between the man and the tree. Songs of advice for the deceased are sung as the tree is placed on the grave.
