“I have counted three times,” announced Betty, the farm cat, “And one is missing!” “The point,” said Peter, the horse, “Which one is missing?” “There’s Millie, Bundle, Crumpet, Solo and Bing,” said Betty. “Then it’s Hugo again!” said Peter, “Drat! That kitten is nasty. Why can’t he just sit around, instead of wandering!” The farmhouse creatures were rather fed up of Hugo who was a very curious little kitten. He loved to investigate things and was already in trouble. Yesterday, the cook had swept him out of the kitchen with a broom and Farmer Douglas had pulled him out of Peter’s water-trough before he got drowned! An alert was sounded by the rooster and all the creatures began to hunt for Hugo. Suddenly Maggy, the goat, heard a rustle in the bushes. She found Hugo sitting there with a small hedgehog. “I’ve got a friend!” he said happily as Maggy took him back, with the hedgehog trotting behind!
