Stay in the Barn

“It’s an electric storm!” yelled Farmer Bailey. He pushed all the animals and the birds into the barns and the stables and covered all the ricks of hay. There was thunder and lightning and the rain came down in sheets. All the farm creatures clustered around the mangers, frightened. Sometimes lightning could cause fires and they were all terrified of fire. “Let’s just stay quietly in the stables,” said the horses, Trusty and Bella. But sometime later, a streak of lightning lit up the sky and one of the hayricks outside the barn caught fire. “Farmer Bailey doesn’t know about the fire!” told Trusty, “We must do something! Otherwise, it will spread to the barn too!” He and Bella dragged the large trough of water to the door and upset it onto the hayrick. It sizzled and the fire went out! In the morning, Farmer Bailey saw the trough and patted his wonderful animals!
