Mr Tell was a big man. He spoke about ‘taxes’ and ‘rents’ and all the farmers treated him with great respect. So, he had become very pompous. He was to visit Farmer Fowler to check on his farm, the accounts, the animals and fields. “Let’s give him a proper reception!” said the animals, “The farmer’s worried. We’ll help him.” When Mr Tell arrived, he found all the animals and the birds lined up at the farm gate. As he drove in, they followed him like a procession and stood outside the farm while he chatted with Farmer Fowler. “I have never seen such a disciplined lot of farm creatures!” commented Mr Tell, and even the farmer was puzzled. When he was about to leave, Mr Tell found a basketful of eggs and cheese, a pail of milk and some vegetables and fruits in his cart! Mr Fowler was really proud of his farm!
