Pool of Misery

When Mr Gump bought the farm, he learnt that the pond had been named the Pool of Misery, because years ago an old man had fallen into it and got drowned. Farmer Gump didn’t want his pond to be called by such an awful name. He discussed it with his wife and they came up with a great idea. The next Saturday, they invited the whole village to a fair at the Farm. The villagers found that small stalls were set up in the meadow near the pond. There were cakes, sandwiches, buns and lemonade. Swings and see-saws, a slide and a merry-go-round sent the children running. They could play with the farm animals, ride the little donkey or the horse, enjoy swimming in the pond if they liked or feed the hens! The villagers were delighted. As for the children, they said it was the best holiday they had! Now, the pool was called ‘Gump’s Fun Pool!’
