Olive was a wise old turtle who lived in the stream that flowed through Farmer Warren’s meadow. For a long time no one took any notice of Olive. The farm creatures would watch her walking slowly along the bank and laugh at her. One day Kitty, the farm cat, fell into the stream. Kitty couldn’t swim and she was struggling and mewing loudly. Olive dived in and carried Kitty on her back to the bank. Kitty said a hurried ‘thanks’ and ran to the house. But soon the story of Kitty’s rescue was told to all the farm creatures. One by one they began to come to the stream, for they wanted to be friends with Olive. They often found her with a crowd of frogs and fish, telling them the stories of all that she had seen. They would even ask her about solving their problems! It came to be known as Olive’s School!
