Farmer Morris ran a stable for teaching children how to ride. One of his horses, Oscar, was his favourite. But Oscar was lonely, for he had no mate. One day, Farmer Morris returned from the market with a lovely white mare trotting behind his cart. Her coat glowed chestnut in the sunset and Oscar fell in love with her immediately! But while Coral, the mare, made friends with everyone, he felt terribly shy. ‘How can I tell her I love her?’ he thought. Finally he asked the wise old rooster what he should do. “Get her a gift, Oscar!” suggested the rooster. “What gift?” Oscar asked. “Ladies love flowers,” the rooster told him. The next morning Oscar trotted around the meadow, looking for flowers. He found some daisies, violets and buttercups. He chewed their stems and, holding the bunch in his mouth, he went to Coral. She took the flowers and that was how their love story began!
