The Sea Peoples were naval raiders who harassed the coastal towns and cities of the Mediterranean region between 1276-1178 BCE, especially Egypt. The tribes which comprised the Sea Peoples, according to Egyptian records, are the Sherden, Sheklesh, Lukka, Tursha and Akawasha. The three great pharaohs who record their conflicts and victories over the Sea Peoples are Ramesses II, his son and successor Merenptah and Ramesses III. They seem to have originated either from western Anatolia or from Southern Europe. They are supposed to have sailed around the eastern Mediterranean and invaded Anatolia, Syria, Canaan, Cyprus and Egypt towards the end of the Bronze Age.
