Tomb of Ghenghis Khan

On August 18, 1227, Mongol leader Ghenghis Khan died of unknown causes while leading a military campaign in China. Khan’s corpse was then placed in an unmarked grave to ensure his rest would be undisturbed. The location of Khan’s tomb has remained unknown for almost 900 years. Since 2008, the Valley of the Khan’s Project has been using cutting-edge technology to search for Khan’s final resting place. The project has outsourced the search to thousands of ‘Citizen scientists’ enlisted to comb through high-resolution satellite images of the region looking for possible clues, giving amateurs a rare chance to help solve history’s most enduring riddles.
