Roald Amundsen was born on 16th July 1872 in Borge, Norway, and he died on 18th June 1928 (aged 56 years), Bear Island, Norway. Roald was a Norwegian explorer of polar regions and he was the leader of the Antarctic expedition of 1910–12. The first man to visit the South Pole, Roald had originally decided to go to the North Pole but Robert Peary reached there before him. So, Roald decided to pursue the South Pole and he finally planted the Norwegian Flag there on 11th December 1911. In 1926, Roald Amundsen and 15 other men made the first crossing of the Arctic in the airship Norge.
