Juan Sebastian Elcano was born in 1476 in Getaria, Gipuzkoa, Spain, and he died on 4th August 1526 (aged 50 years) at the Pacific ocean. Juan Sebastian was a mariner, navigator and explorer. He is credited with doing the first circumnavigation of the Earth. He led a mutiny against Magellan who was in charge. During this voyage they discovered a passage, now known as Strait of Magellan, near the southern tip of South America. They set sail for the Pacific ocean after their crew had mutinied and returned to Spain. They finally reached Moluccas and they continued westwards crossing the Indian and Atlantic oceans.
