Anne’s sister, Carol, had rented an apartment to use as a studio, just to paint. For some time, Anne lived in one of the rooms in the apartment. That night, Anne locked the front door with the bolt and chain. Around three in the morning, she heard someone unlock the front door. Anne thought, ‘It must be Carol!’ She heard Carol go to her studio. Anne was tired, so she stayed in bed. Then, Anne heard some mumbling and laughing. “Artists are strange people,” she said as she fell asleep again. The next morning, someone knocked at the front door. Anne opened it and Carol came in and said, “Sorry, last evening I forgot my key here and then stayed at a friend’s place.” Anne was shocked. She said, “Carol, if you didn’t come here last night, who did?” Anne and Carol left the apartment, never to return again.
