Tony was fascinated by an old, red ladder that reclined in the corner of a children’s park. One day, Tony propped the ladder against a tree and started climbing it. Tony climbed and climbed, but the steps would not end. The more he climbed, the more steps there seemed to be. Soon, Tony was tired and was about to turn back, when he saw a blue light at the top. ‘Well, let me climb a few more steps,’ thought Tony. He reached the light. Lo! He was staring into a glistening protruding eye, the size of a football. The creature was a mass of tangled limbs, with a shaggy brown face. It dribbled forth a frothy white liquid, and gave a loud, earth-shattering roar. It lashed out its enormous sticky tongue and licked Tony’s face. Tony scrambled down in sheer terror, sometimes slipping and sometimes sliding until he reached the bottom. Tony never went near ladders since then.
