Louis Hennepin

Louis-Hennepin

Louis Hennepin was born on 12th May 1626 in the present day Belgium and he died on 5th December 1704 (aged 78 years) in Rome. Louis was a Roman Catholic priest who was a missionary and an explorer of the interiors of North America. He was sent to sail through the Great Lakes and explore the unknown West. They reached somewhere near the present Illinois and Louis was sent further to search for River Mississippi. He brought forth the existence of the Niagara Falls, and the Saint Anthony Falls, the only Falls on the Mississippi.

Do you know: Louis Hennepin’s claim of discovering the Mississippi is untrue as he claimed to have found it two years before LaSalle, who was the leader of the expedition.
