Eusebio Kino

Eusebio-Kino

Eusebio Francisco Kino was born on 10th August 1645 in the Holy Roman Empire and he died on 15th March 1711 (aged 66 years) in the Spanish Empire. An Italian Jesuit, geographer, cartographer and explorer, Eusebio was a missionary who stayed in the region which is now Sonora in Mexico and southern Arizona in the United States. He proved that the Baja California Peninsula is not an island by leading an expedition over land. Eusebio travelled across northern Mexico following the established trading routes. His many expeditions covered an area of 50,000 sq.miles while he mapped an area which was 320 km long and 400 km wide.

Do you know: Eusebio opposed slavery and compulsory hard labour in the silver mines that the natives were forced to do.
