HANUMAN BURNS LANKA

Hanuman was taken to Ravana’s court and he told Ravana that he was the messenger of Sita’s husband, Rama. Hanuman then asked Ravana to leave Sita; otherwise, Rama would kill him. Ravana became angry and told his soldiers to punish him by setting his tail on fire. Hanuman’s tail was tied up with a piece of cloth dipped in ghee but all the cloth in Lanka was consumed as Hanuman went on increasing the length of his tail. As Hanuman’s tail was set alight, he started jumping from place to place, setting Lanka ablaze. People started running for protection. There was destruction all around. All houses were reduced to ashes. Hanuman did not get hurt by the fire because he was a messenger of the Lord Rama. After burning Lanka he jumped into the ocean to put out the fire on his tail. He then met Sita and told her that she should give him some remembrance to give it to Rama. Sita took out her bangle and gave it to Hanuman. She then told Hanuman to tell Rama that she would die if he did not rescue her within one month. Hanuman told her that their army would soon come to rescue her.
