Irta was a whiny girl. She would complain about everything and everyone. “Aunty, Sabrina never listens to me!” she would say. “Uncle Toivo never does what I tell him to do!” she would say to her friends’ parents. Everyone tried to be nice to her but her complaining always got everyone on edge. Slowly, all the children stopped playing with her or listening to her. One day, Irta’s mother said, “Irta, if you want to be friends with others then stop complaining! If you look at others’ good points then you will find more than a friend. You will make friends for life!” Irta thought, ‘Why not? Let me try it.’ Then, she went seeking new friends. However, this time, instead of looking at what was NOT right, she started looking for what WAS nice in them. In this way, she found that she was able to make more friends whom she liked and who respected her as well.
