Gideon wanted to be sure that God had chosen him to act as a leader of Israel. He asked the messenger to wait so that he might get him some fresh bread, meal and broth. The messenger asked him to put them on the rocks and suddenly he saw flames around, which cooked the food. He wanted some more confirmation about God and His selection. He prayed to God, “Oh Lord, forgive me if I am asking for much. Please give me a sign that will tell me that you have chosen me for this task. I will keep some fleece of wool, and pray to You to make it wet with dew drops, with wetting the ground where it has been kept.” To his surprise it happened the next day. Again, he asked God the ground to be wet, and the fleece of wool to be dry. It happened the second day, and now he was sure that God had selected him to fight for the people against the Midianites.
