Princess Nerissa lived in a room in which the heavy curtains were always drawn and candles were lit in shaded corners. She came to be known as the Princess of Shadows. One day, Prince Ferdinand came to visit the kingdom and heard about the princess. He wondered if she was ill. “No!” said the king, “The silly girl thinks she’s too ugly to be seen outside!” The prince went to meet her and very reluctantly she sat down to talk to him. When the prince met her every day, she began to speak to him. One day, Prince Ferdinand told her, “If we stop thinking about ourselves and begin to find ways to make other people happy, we become more beautiful!” Princess Nerissa liked this idea and began to do things for others. Slowly, she came out of the shadows and later married the prince. Now, she was called the Sunshine Princess!
