There was great panic in the kingdom! An attendant came running into the tent of Princess Mariam shouting, “The sky is falling down! The world is coming to an end!” The princess looked out and saw large grey clouds piling up in the sky. Thunder rolled and lightning flashed! No one in the kingdom had seen rain before, because it was a desert. So, they thought the sky was falling down and the world would come to an end. Princess Mariam had travelled to many countries and seen rain and snow and many different kinds of weather. She laughed, “No! This is only a storm. There will be rain!” Soon, all the ministers came to her. “What is rain, Princess?” they asked. She explained how clouds travelled with the wind and collected the drops of water which fell as rain. The ministers were so impressed that they presented her a beautiful necklace to honour her wisdom!
