A mouse and a frog were good friends. Every morning, the frog would hop out of his pond and visit the mouse. One day, the frog said to the mouse, “Why don’t you come to my pond? I will wait for you.” Days passed by but the mouse did not come. This made the frog angry. So, one day, out of spite, when it was time for the frog to leave, he did a very bad thing! He tied one end of a string around his own leg and the other to the mouse’s tail. Then, he marched home, dragging the mouse along. The poor mouse tried to free himself but couldn’t. On reaching the pond, the frog jumped in along with the mouse. Unluckily, a hawk saw them and carried them away. The frog sighed, “Oh! In my bid to get even, I have brought my own downfall.”
Moral: Don’t dig too deep a pit for your enemy, for you may fall into it yourself.
