The Three Hands

Days passed into years. The baby grew into a handsome boy. But one day, Leelavati passed away. At that time, the boy was only eight years old. His father looked after him. The boy grew into a handsome youth. But his father also passed away. He was left all alone. He looked after his father’s business and made it profitable. When the Shraddh days came, he decided to go to the banks of River Phalgu to offer oblations to the departed souls of his father and mother. So, he went to the river. While he was offering oblations, he saw three hands, two of men and one of woman, emerging out of the water. The young man was puzzled to see the three hands. He first asked the lady’s hand, “Whose hand is this?” “It is your mother’s hand,” replied the hand. The young man offered her the maternal oblations.
