It is a Mahayan Buddhist Temple comprising stacked platforms. The Temple is situated in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. The Borobudur temple was completed around 825 AD.

Why it is special: Designed in a Javanese Buddhist architectural style, the Temple comprises nine stacked platforms that have six square and three circular levels, which are topped by a central dome. 2,672 relief panels and 504 statues of the Buddha decorate the Temple adding to its beauty. The Temple was created as a blend of the Indonesian concept of ancestor worship with the Buddhist concept of nirvana. While the Temple was built in the 9th century, the knowledge of its existence was not created until 1814.
