The Emerald Buddha is a figurine of the Buddha meditating in a yogic position. The figurine is situated in Thailand. The Statue was found in 1434 in Northern Thailand.
Why it is special: This mysterious Statue was found after lightning had struck a stupa, revealing a stucco Buddha inside. This Buddha Statue was placed inside an abbot’s residence that realized that the statue was not made of stucco but of a semi-precious stone, giving it its name–the Emerald Buddha. 26 inches in height, the Emerald Buddha is made from Jade or Jasper and clothed entirely in gold.
