St. Basil’s Cathedral is a church. It is located in the Red Square in Moscow, Russia. The Church was built from 1555-61.
Why it is special: Ivan the Terrible ordered the Church to be built, to commemorate the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan. Today, the Church has been converted into a museum. What stands out in the Church is its unique architectural style that has no analogue in Russian architecture. With the buildings being shaped as bonfires rising to the skies, the Cathedral is exquisite and completely unexpected. Its colourful domes give the onlooker the feel of a Disney castle.
