One day, a fox was walking along when he saw a hedge and started climbing it. As he climbed up, he lost his footing and slipped. To save himself, the fox caught hold of a bramble. But, the bramble was full of prickly thorns. The thorns of the bramble pricked the soles of the fox’s feet. The fox cried out in pain as he was hurt very badly. The fox cried out to the bramble, “All I needed was your help but you have hurt me! How could you do such a thing to me?” The bramble replied, “You cannot blame me for your wounds.” The fox was puzzled. The bramble continued, “Nobody holds me. It is always I who hold onto others.” The fox realised his folly and went away in pain.
