When Tenali was a kid, the provincial ruler visited the school and questioned who the most intelligent child was.
Since none got up, Tenali said it was him and the king praised him for his courage. On growing up, he went to Vijaya Nagar’s ruler Sri Krishnadeva Raya’s royal priest Thathacharya and impressed him. He promised to introduce Tenali to the king, which he didn’t. Later he impressed another courtier Nandi Thimmana, and appeased him with spontaneous poetry.
Thimmana gave him a Kashmiri Shawl, presented to him by the king the previous day. Next day, Tenali came to the court wearing the shawl and the king asked him where he got it from. To this he replied that he appeased the courtier who felicitated him with this. The king was impressed and offered him position in his court.
Thus was the entry of Tenali into Bhuvana Vijayam.
