The Barber’s Fifth Brother

The lazy Alnaschar, one of 7 children of an old man, inherited 100 drachmas after his father’s death. He spent them in buying glasses and bottles from wholesale market to sell at profits in a retail store. Suddenly, he started talking so loud to himself that the next door barber heard his every word.

Dreaming of opulence and arrogance that his wife and her mother were in awe of him and that he ill-treated his wife by beating her and insulting her. His barber brother saw him kicking the basket, when Alnaschar thought he was kicking his wife, which broke all his glasses.

The tailor who heard all this had a fit of laughter and said that he should be punished even for thinking of such a cruel act.

A few days later, an old lady met him and took him to a place to introduce him to a lovely, rich lady, but was instead robbed, stabbed and thrown by a big black slave in a room full of corpses thinking him dead. He regained senses and was nursed to health.

Alnaschar avenged himself by killing the lady. Reciting the entire story to the judge, Alnaschar was rescued from being punished.
