Camcorder

Earlier video cameras were immobile and could not be transported out of a studio or a particular location. The introduction of Betacam in 1982, improved the mobility of the operator by removing the need of cable between the camera and the recorder. Betacam was soon used for in-studio video editing as well as broadcast news. In 1985, Sony came up with another solution to the problem of mobility. A new compact video cassette format called the Video was introduced by Sony. However, it was not very successful due to technical difficulties. Later on, many other companies like Panasonic, Hitachi and RCA also began producing portable camcorders. Digital technology was incorporated into camcorders with the release of the Sony D1. Day-by-day, the camcorder started to come in the market with a memory chip. With the advent of the digital age, the camcorder has become more sophisticated equipment used for 3-D as well as HD recording.
