The creation of the wheeled furniture as it was in its nascent stage dates back to the 6th century BC. The first recorded wheeled seats, which were used for the purpose of the transport of the disabled, date back to 3 centuries back in China. However, the Chinese did not distinguish this creation for the movement of disabled people or heavy goods. The bath chair or the invalid carriage was created in the year 1760 by a European during the German Renaissance. Harry Jennings along with his disabled friend Herbert Everest, both highly proficient mechanical engineers, created the first ever lightweight, collapsible, steel wheelchair back in the year 1933. They saw a huge business potential in this idea and then later went on to mass manufacture it. This x-brace design is widely used even today for the disabled. However, wheelchairs are equipped with the most modern technologies and designs.
