Two Oxen and the Pig

Two Oxen and the Pig

Once, there were two oxen named Ortho and Partho. They lived in the jungle; they grazed in the pasture of the jungle. One day a farmer and his wife saw them grazing in the jungle and took them to their house. There was another pet, a pig, named Pihu. He lived in a farmer’s house. The oxen were given enough food to eat once. The farmer’s wife ordered that Pihu should be fattened for their daughter’s wedding. Ortho envied the pig when he saw the good food the pig got to eat.

He complained to Partho, “We get only grass and straw whereas Pihu eats much better food.” “Pihu is being given good food only to be killed,” consoled Partho. But the Ortho was still sad. A few days later, Pihu was killed and cooked for the wedding feast. Partho said to his brother, “Now you see what has happened to the pig. The food he ate was just to fatten him for this day.” Ortho then realised that it was better to eat simple food and live longer than eat delicious food for only a few days.
