Abu Nowas was a favourite of the country’s Sultan. One day, he went to the Sultan and told him that his wife had died and he had no money to bury her. The Sultan gave him the money. At the same time, Nowas’ wife went to the Sultana and told her that her husband was dead. And Sultana gave her some money. When they met, the Sultan and the Sultana fought over who had died. The Sultan sent his guard to Nowas’ house; the guard returned and told the Sultan that the wife had died. The Sultana’s chamberlain reported that Abu Nowas had died. Finally, both the Sultan and the Sultana went, and found both Abu Nowas and his wife lying covered. The Sultan said “I will give a huge reward to the person who explains what had happened.” Abu Nowas immediately sat up and said, “There is no one who needs money more than I.” The Sultan laughed but gave him the money.
