Once, there was a lion who lived in his den. He didn’t want to hunt for himself because he had become old and fragile. So he proclaimed in the jungle, “Every day he wants one animal killed and offered to him; otherwise, they will all have to leave the jungle.” Hearing this all animals got scared and decided to sacrifice themselves. Soon it was the turn of a clever hare. All night, he thought of how to get out of this difficult situation. Suddenly he hit upon a clever idea.
The next day, he went into the lion’s den. The hare said gently, “O King, there is another lion in a well who is calling you weak and foolish.” Hearing this, the lion growled in anger and vowed to kill his rival. The clever hare led him to a well filled with water. When the lion peeped in, he saw his own reflection in the water. The foolish lion thought it to be the enemy and jumped into the well and got drowned. From that day, all the animals lived in peace and without fear.
