Once, three friends Sheena, the starfish Emily; the sea urchin with sharp spikes; and Kullu, the crab; lived in the sea. Sheena and Emily loved to live in the shallow side of sea but Kullu was very much afraid of the shallow sea. His constant efforts at jumping into the deep sea from the rocks always failed. Each time he failed, his mood became gloomier. Sheena and Emily tried to cheer him up, “Come on, Kullu; the shallow sea has its own beauty and delights. The big fish and sharks may gobble you up in the deep sea.” However, Kullu refused to cheer up.
One day, a rowdy group of children who had come to the sea, playfully threw some sand at them. Kullu quickly covered her eyes with her claws while Emily closed her mouth tightly. Sheena anxiously swam across to see if anyone was hurt. Kullu angrily said, “Now you see why I hate living in the shallow sea. Anybody can harm us, especially pesky kids.” Right then a gigantic tidal wave washed over them and everybody lost their hold and were thrown helter-skelter. It is said the sea brings back whatever it takes. The sea soon brought them back into the shallow waters. Sheena and Emily were overjoyed to return to their old dwelling, while Kullu still grumbled.
