A long time ago, there lived a brave sailor named Sindbad. He went on many adventurous voyages.
Once, during a voyage, Sindbad saw a small, beautiful island, and decided to explore it. So, he went with a few of his men to the island and they planned to have a little picnic. His men started preparing food while Sindbad lay down to relax on the island. Suddenly, he heard shouts from the ship. Soon, he realised that the island was moving. The crew from the ship called out, “You are on the back of a huge monster whale.”
Some men jumped into the boat and sailed to the ship while others dived into the water and swam to the ship. When Sindbad tried to jump off, the monster whale dived into the sea. Poor Sindbad grabbed a log of wood to save himself. His men reached the ship safely, but before Sindbad could reach the ship, a storm broke out and he was carried away from his ship by strong waves. Thinking that Sindbad was dead, the ship left without him.
Sindbad floated on the log of wood and reached a small island, tired and hungry. He explored the island and found fresh water and fruits. He noticed that no one lived on the island except for some wild horses. As it grew dark, Sindbad climbed up a tree to sleep. At midnight, he was woken up by the sound of drums and trumpets.
Sindbad went looking for island inhabitants in the morning, but found none. Again that night, he heard the same sounds of drums and trumpets.
On the third night, Sindbad became very curious. He climbed down the tree to check. To his amazement, he saw a group of men. Sindbad ran to meet them, introduced himself and told them his story.
The men said, “We are the soldiers of King Mihrage. This island belongs to the Genies. They visit the island at night and play their drums and trumpets. They have given us permission to train the wild horses for King Mihrage.” Then, the men took Sindbad to King Mihrage who welcomed him warmly.
One day, Sindbad saw some men unloading goods from a ship in the harbour. It was his ship and crew. He went to meet them. The old crew recognised Sindbad. They all welcomed him back.
Sindbad thanked King Mihrage and left happily for home on his ship.
