Once an antelope was drinking water from a pond. It saw its reflection in the water. It prided over its magnificent antlers. It thought, ‘How pretty my horns are! They are a work of the finest art. No other animal has such treasures.’ Then it looked at its thin stick-like legs and sighed. It muttered, ‘What an ugly sight my legs are!’
Suddenly, the antelope heard the roar of a lion. It ran for its life. The lion was coming after it. The antelope ran faster to get out of the reach of the lion.
Up ahead there was a forest area full of trees and bushes. The antelope heaved a sigh of relief there. The lion was still chasing the antelope.
The antelope moved through the thick growth of trees and bushes. Suddenly, its antlers got entangled in a low-lying branch of a tree. Its effort to free the antlers got it more badly enmeshed.
It sighed, “Ah! I was cursing my stick-like thin legs. But they helped me get away from the lion, but the antlers I prided over are going to lead me to death.”
The lion came close and killed the antelope.
