You will need:

  1. Water
  2. Rubber gloves
  3. Lots of moss (collected from the garden, yard, shop, etc.)
  4. Measuring cup
  5. Small indoor plant (like a fern)
  6. Yarn
  7. Mixing bowl
  8. Bonsai and peat soil (found in any plant shop)

Kokedama or ‘moss ball’ is a form of gardening found in Japan, which uses mostly moss to grow greenery. Create your very own hanging garden.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Put on your rubber gloves. Take your small
indoor plant and very gently tap it so as to
remove any dirt or soil which may be stuck to the roots.
  2. Take a mixing bowl and mix together 3 ½ cups of peat soil and 1 ½ cups of bonsai soil. Add ½ cup of water into the mixture.
  3. Shape it into a ball and pack it as tightly as possible. Next, take moss and wrap it around the roots of the plant.
  4. Poke a large hole into the soil ball. The hole should be large enough to let the roots of the plants go through it.
  5. Pack the roots covered with moss into the peat and bonsai ball and reshape the ball around it.
  6. Cover the outside of the ball with moss and decorate the outside by wrapping it with yarn and creating a loop with the
yarn so that you may hang it outside.

RESULT

Spray it with water and keep the plant in a shady place. Your indoor hanging plant will not only look pretty but also last a long time. And it doesn’t need lots of water as moss helps retain water.
