Put A Spin On That Ball ((Funky Physics Experiments)

You will need:

  1. A smooth, non-slippery
    floor
  2. Super bouncy ball
  3. Low table with a smooth
    underside
  4. Open place

Try yet another trick with your bouncing ball and watch the ball bounce back at you.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Perform this experiment in a room with no delicate/breakable objects around, or in the open place.
  2. Take your super bouncy ball and throw it lightly on the smooth floor. It should bounce away from you.
  3. Now, very lightly bounce the ball towards the table so that it may bounce under the table.

RESULT

When you bounce the ball in an open place, it will bounce away. But when you bounce the ball under the table, it should bounce on the underside of the table and back at you. Unlike other balls, a bouncy ball grips the surface it hits. As a result, when it hits a surface a large frictional force is applied to it. It makes it start spinning, resulting in it spinning back towards you.
