The Sneaky Stethoscope (61 Brilliant Biology Experiments)

You will need:

1. 4 funnels (two larger than the others)
2. Plastic tubing, at least 15 inches in length
3. Garden hosepipe
   (15 inches in length)
4. Scissors
5. Electrical tape
6. Hot water
7. Pen and paper

Create your own stethoscope and figure out what the doctor hears inside your chest.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. In this experiment, we are going to create two stethoscopes made from different materials in
   order to test which material is better.
2. For the first, take your plastic tubing and attach one large funnel to one end of the tubing. Attach a small funnel to the other end.
3. In case the tubing does not sit easily inside the neck of the funnel, place it in hot water till it softens and then squeeze it into the mouths of the funnels.
4. For the next stethoscope, take the garden hosepipe.
5. Like the previous one, attach a large funnel to one end and a small funnel to the other end of the hosepipe.
6. In case the hosepipe does not sit in the funnel,
   take the help of a friend to attach the hosepipe
   to the funnels with electrical tape.
7. Make sure that the hosepipe is attached properly.

RESULT

Your two stethoscopes are now ready. Try using them on a friend’s chest or back to listen to his heart beats. Note which of the two stethoscopes is functioning better, and which helps to hear the heart beats clearer.
