The most precious gold covenant chest was kept safely in God’s tent at a place called Shiloh. An Israelite called Elkanah visited this place every year with his two wives, Peninnah and Hannah. Peninnah had three kids, while Hannah had none. She was completely upset and one day ran to the place where the shrine was and cried loudly in front of God. Hannah requested God not to forget her, and she badly wanted a child of her own. If He fulfilled her desire then she would dedicate the child to His service forever. A priest noticed her and asked her for the reason to cry and she said that she wanted a kid. He asked her to go back peacefully, as God would surely hear her prayers and bless her for sure. Now that she had spoken to God, she was quite happy and excited.
