A Bright Student

Josephine was a dreamer. She spent all day drifting around the farm, singing and picking flowers, playing with the ducklings and the chicks, the lambs and the puppies. Farmer Trent’s wife was very worried because it was time to send her to school. “She won’t pay attention there, and then she’ll be in trouble,” said Mrs Trent. “Don’t worry!” said Farmer Trent, sure that his daughter would be fine. At the end of two weeks, the parents were invited to the school. Mr and Mrs Trent went there, feeling very nervous. Had Josephine got into trouble? Miss Mole said politely, “Are you Josephine’s parents?” They nodded. “She is a bright student!” announced Miss Mole, “She paints the most beautiful pictures of animals and birds and tells marvellous stories about them. And she can count up to fifty already! She says she learnt it all at the farm!” The Trents went home delighted!
