A Fire at the Farm

Night had fallen over Roger’s farm. It was dark and silent. Only a sheep bell tinkled sometimes, or there was a rustle as the creatures settled into a deep sleep. Suddenly, Farmer Roger felt someone shaking him. “Wake up, Roger!” said his wife. “Paget, the horse, is whinnying loudly! Something’s wrong!” Roger grabbed his coat and ran out. There was light shining in the stable and Paget was whinnying in fright. The light flickered. It was a fire! “Fire!” shouted Rogers, running into the stable to untie Paget. His farm hands, Mrs Roger and others, came running out. Within minutes the animals and the birds were pushed into the barn, while many hands began to throw buckets of water on the fire. Someone fixed the hose and suddenly water gushed on the flaming haystacks and wood. An hour later, the fire was out and everyone gathered in the kitchen for tea!
