A Man Named Bad

Once, a monk had a pupil called Bad. Bad thought that his name was disgraceful and unlucky. So, he went to the monk asking him to change his name. The monk asked him to find a more fortunate name and return. Bad left the city and soon came across a man who had just died. The people said the dead man was named Alive. Soon, Bad saw that a servant named Rich was being cursed by a merchant. He had not paid his debt. Surprised, Bad then met a man who was lost. His name was Tourguide. Bad then returned to the monk and said, “Those named Alive and Dead have died, Rich and Poor may be penniless, Tourguide and Tourist get lost. A name is merely a word used for recognising a person. So I won’t change my name.”

Moral: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
