Wise-Eye, Slow-Toes and Nibbles became friends and were very happy living in the forest and sharing stories and their ideas. One day, a deer with dappled skin came running through the forest where the three sat. It seemed to be running away from something. The three friends, sensing danger, promptly hid themselves. Slow-Toes slid into the waters of the lake. Nibbles ran into his hole. Wise-Eye flew into the branches of a tree. Wise-Eye looked around from the tree-top and found there was nothing to be afraid of. So, he came down and called out to the others. Slow-Toes came out of the water and Nibbles peeped out of his hole. They looked at the deer and welcomed him. His name was Dapple. Dapple joined the three friends and soon became comfortable, eating the lush green grass and curling up under the banyan tree. They asked him why he had been running.
