Jenny was the only donkey on the farm. All the others had friends and mates. But she often felt lonely, for she had no mate to talk to. ‘And I spend my time chewing thistles, though the farmer is kind and gives me oats and hay too,’ she thought sadly. One day, Jenny found a bright red rose near the thistles. She looked around as there were no roses near by. And there it was again the next day, and the next…..“Someone is leaving roses for me,” she wondered. Jenny waited behind some bushes the next day, watching to see who brought the rose. Soon she heard the sound of hooves, and there was Fred, Farmer Haggerty’s donkey, leaving a rose on the thistle! Jenny fell in love with Fred. Now, they both lived on Haggerty’s farm and had a little foal too! They named her Rose!
