Misty, the duck, was a great favourite at the Ingle’s farm. She was a wonderful story-teller. Her stories were loved by all the creatures. But that day, there was no sign of Misty. The ducklings were wandering around looking very lost, till Bessie, the brown hen, took them under her wing. Where was Misty? The cats, the dogs, the sheep and the goats, and all the animals set off to look for her. It was Benny, the donkey, who called out, “She’s here! Come quickly!” Everyone ran to Benny and found Misty lying near the pond. They couldn’t wake her up and finally the large retriever, Forrest, carried her to the barn. Poor Misty had been bitten by a snake! She would not wake up again. In the morning, Farmer Ingle buried her.
