A Stitch in Time Saves Nine

‘A stitch in time saves nine’ is an old proverb. It signifies that: perform tasks in time and you will be saved from unnecessary trouble. Defects in the beginning look so minor that we often overlook them. But the neglect often proves dangerous. If we take timely and proper care of small ailments, they can easily be got rid of. But if we allow them to develop, they become complicated. There is an old story that a kingdom was lost because the king did not care to replace a nail in a horse shoe. The saying goes: “For want of a nail, the shoe was lost; for want of a shoe, the horse was lost; for want of the rider, the battle was lost; for want of the battle, the kingdom was lost.”
Vocabulary
