It was Maggie’s birthday. Her father brought a beautiful yellow canary. The yellow canary was caged in a beautiful brass cage. Maggie was filled with joy when she got the wonderful gift! “I was really wishing for a canary, Father,” she said, “The canary is now my responsibility. I will take care of its water and food,” she added. For a few weeks, Maggie looked after her canary very well and fed it every day. But one day, she forgot feeding the bird due to her school picnic. Then the next day also, due to Maggie’s school project, the bird did not get its feed. Maggie got very busy in her project. This went on for another few days. One day, Maggie suddenly remembered about the canary and went to its cage. By then, the poor bird was dead! Maggie was devastated, but she could not reverse the results of her forgetfulness. She understood that forgetfulness, at times, might lead to suffering and pain, too.
