A Welcome Song

Tony, Farmer Giles’ son, was coming home! The farm animals had decided to welcome him in style: with music and dance! “Let’s forget the dance,” suggested Molly, the cow, and the sheep agreed. But the hens, the ducks and the goats decided that it wouldn’t be a bad idea. The rooster was to lead the singers. Tins and cans, lids and sticks, were collected. When Tony arrived, a terrific rumpus started at the farm as all the creatures burst into their welcome song with the clanging and crashing of tins and cans and sticks! Tony began laughing as he saw all his childhood friends clustered around to greet him. He hugged and patted all of them, and then said, “Okay, quiet now! I’ve got something for you too!” He switched on the radio and as the music wafted out, all the animals and the birds felt very happy and peaceful! Tony had really come home!
