Abalones are a group of edible sea snails. Their ears-shaped shells have a dull exterior and an iridescent interior composed of nacre, that is found on pearls. This herbivore has broad muscular feet for clinging to rocks. The gestation period is 7-14 days and they live for 30 years. They are popular as food and are used in jewellery.
